Balance cock A balance cock is a bridge secured to the movement plate at only one end. In the 16th century, balance cocks had a simple elongated form. By the 18th century, however, they were often decorated with elaborate chasing and engraved with decoration. English balance cocks were typically round with a large fastening foot.
