Drive weight The drive weight acts as maintaining power. This weight is carried on a pulley, and the cord supporting the weight is wrapped around the main driving wheel, allowing gravity to drive the geared going and strike trains of a clock. Christiaan Huygens used this mechanism in his early clocks.
