Grande Sonnerie Grande sonnerie is a complication in a clock or watch, in which the striking mechanism is combined with a repeater. A grande sonnerie timepiece sounds out the hour and the quarters automatically. The hour is sounded out on the hour on one bell, while the quarters are sounded on another bell. The words ‘grande sonnerie’ are French for ‘grand strike’.
