Latitude The latitude of a place on the surface of the earth is the angle between the line joining that place to the centre of the earth and the plane of the Equator. Thus, the latitude of the North Pole is 90°N, London is 51°N, and the Equator is 0°. Lines of latitude are represented as circles around the earth perpendicular to its axis of rotation.
