Quarter repeat (pull repeat) The quarter-repeater watch or clock strikes the number of hours and then the number of quarter hours since the latest hour. The mechanism uses two chimes of different tones. The low tone usually signals the hours, and the high tone the quarters. Clocks with this feature often have a cord described as a pull repeat. The pull-repeat chord could be pulled to sound out the time – a handy feature for telling time in the dark.
