Repoussé Repoussé (or repoussage) is a metalworking technique in which a malleable metal is shaped by hammering from the reverse side to create a design in bas-relief. The famous goldchaser Ishmael Parbury often used this technique when working on early watch cases. An example of a magnificent repoussé scene by Parbury can be seen on the outer gold case of George Graham’s Gold Cylinder Watch, dated 1733.
