Table clock A table clock is an early mainspring-driven clock with a horizontal dial. Table clocks were first made in Germany during the 1500s. Many table clocks were made in Britain during the 1600s, of which the mantel clock is a type. They are small enough to be placed on a table, shelf or mantel and were often constructed to be viewed in the round (360°).
