Yeoman A yeoman is a freeholder, or a man holding and cultivating a small landed estate. Yeomen qualified for certain duties and rights, such as serving on juries or voting for the knight of the shire, by virtue of possessing free land. Lantern clockmaker Robert Harvey was of yeoman stock.
