New digital clock for Network Rail London Bridge station recently saw the launch of a new clock, with a design that will be adopted on station information screens across the rail network. The clock face pays homage to the iconic double arrow Network Rail logo created by Gerry Barney in 1964 when working for the Design Research Unit (DRU) as a young lettering artist. The new clockface features numerals from the typographer Margaret Calvert’s Rail Alphabet 2. In the case of the London Bridge clock, the arrows of the logo travel around the edge of the 1.8m diameter clock face. The final design was awarded through a ‘Timepiece for the Railways’ competition, won by Design Bridge and Partners. It’s heartwarming to see the high level of positive interest in the new, clean and modern design, which will soon be downloadable on the Google Play store for watches and apps.
