New Exhibit - Oyster-veneered Parquetry Longcase The maker, Henry Jones, became professionally active as a clockmaker in 1663, after finishing his apprenticeship with Edward East. This new exhibit is a Henry Jones skeletonised chapter ring parquetry eight-day longcase with a crested hood. Early productions by Henry Jones are usually of the highest quality and this fine clock certainly conforms with that accolade. Skeletonised chapter rings are difficult to make so they commanded a high price and only appear on the best quality clocks. The hood is graced by a fine walnut carved cresting and the early parquetry and glass lenticle glow against the surrounding olivewood with its distinctive patterns resembling oysters.
