Clocking the Clocks Dr Taylor’s design for the Corpus Chronophage is a homage to John Harrison’s grasshopper escapement design. The timepiece re-imagines Harrison’s 18th century escapement design as a time-eating creature which munches every minute of the day, for it never to be seen again. It is installed in the façade of the Corpus Christi college’s library which faces King’s Parade and Trinity College. Officially launched to the public 16 years ago on 19 September 2008 by Dr John C Taylor and Cambridge physicist Stephen Hawking, it is now the most visited tourist attraction in Cambridge.
