Ellicott's regulators track the transit of Venus In 1760, English clockmaker John Ellicott produced a small series of regulator clocks to be used by astronomers to track the transit of Venus in 1761 and 1769. Ellicott’s Portable Mahogany-cased Astronomical Regulator, made around 1760, was probably the first made in this series.[1] It was ordered by the Royal Society and is also known as ‘Admiral Howe’s Ellicott Regular’. It is pictured above and coming soon to Clocktime. End Note [1] Carter 2021, 210–213, Exhibit No. 43; Howse 1977. References Carter, J. 2021.
