John Fromanteel in The Hague In 1657, Ahasuerus Fromanteel’s son, John Fromanteel, visited The Hague in the Netherlands, where he worked under contract with clockmaker Salomon Coster to aid in the production of Christiaan Huygens’ first domestic pendulum clocks. The contract of his employment with Coster was drawn up on 3rd September 1657. John returned from The Hague in May 1658, and resumed work in his father’s workshop in Southwark in London. There, he was able to reproduce Huygens’ technology and share this knowledge with his father.
