Meet the team – Carl Albrigt Meet Carl Albrigt who is the Keeper for the John C Taylor Collection, which includes a selection of some of the most significant early British timepieces. The oldest clock in the collection is the Gothic Iron Wall Clock. Key elements of the Collection are immortalised on the Clocktime website. It’s Carl’s job to keep all of the collection pieces in tip top condition and prepare them for shipping when loaned to museums and galleries. One of the biggest operations involved preparing over 100 clocks ready for the Innovation & Collaboration exhibition which took place in 2018 at Bonhams Bond Street, London. This was followed by the Luxury of Time exhibitions at National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh and the Manx Museum, Isle of Man. He also sets up the clocks for filming and photography for the Clocktime digital museum. Carl’s background is in jewellery, design, manufacturing and repair. He has worked with Dr John C Taylor since 2010 and has his work cut out at this time of year, when the clocks go back on Sunday 27th October. He said, “As any clock owner knows, it’s important not to cause undue stress to mechanisms. Every clock is different and we keep notes on the nuances of each piece. This is what makes the job interesting, as well as meeting other curators who regularly visit the collection in the Isle of Man.”
