A message from Clocktime’s creator Good morning The purpose of the Clocktime digital museum is to educate, inform and I hope to entertain. Ten years ago, when I was a spritely 70-something, I came across the work of Glenn Whorrall. He created a mesmerising time lapse film showing the splendour of night-time skies in the Isle of Man. I commissioned him to produce a video of the Dragon Chronophage clock and quickly realised I was working with a master craftsman. As well as being an accomplished videographer, Glenn studied animation and photography – the perfect crafts to make visual content stimulating. My home at Arragon Mooar has a purpose-built photographic studio, with blackout shutters, lighting rigs and an edit suite with a high-powered PC, we call The Beast. This set up has kept logistics smooth as clocks can be temperamental creatures and the less travelling they do, the better. As an inventor, I’m inclined to think ahead. To this end, all of the original content has been shot on RED cameras, minimum Ultra High Definition, with some of the 360-degree sequences filmed on 6K. For the photography, we use a range of tilt-shift lenses and typically shoot at 100-megapixel resolution. It’s been so gratifying to hear favourable reviews of the Clocktime videos. I still have quite a few to do, so watch this space!
