A message from Clocktime's creator Good morning I’ve always said that it’s important to have fun in life! This might be a bit of a stretch on a dull January day but there are many reasons to be cheerful, especially where clocks and watches are concerned. The BHI Scotland group has kindly invited the Clocktime team to meet and discuss the digital museum on Saturday 8th February at a lunchtime meeting. The Wallace Collection study day on Friday 31st January will be fascinating for clock case makers and furniture aficionados alike. I was delighted to hear that there are modern artisanal clockmakers, such as Miki Eleta, with the imagination to create new handmade works that appeal to people from a broad spectrum of cultures. His inventive clocks are being showcased at high profile global events, where he will show visitors that timepieces can be playful and engaging, as well as functional. A highlight of the week will be speaking to Lewis Walduck who came to my attention via the Horological Journal. Amongst several qualifications he has a diploma in the Servicing and Repair of Clocks and Watches, an attribute that’s hugely appreciated by collectors. We must praise people like Lewis and those who teach such important skills. It’s thanks to them that clocks remain the beating heart of our lives. This meeting was arranged by my linchpin, Clare Monaghan, who is also the axel around which all of the cogs and wheels turn. She looks after a huge number of my business contractors ranging from design engineers to clock specialists and is brilliant at making sure everything runs like clockwork. Now that’s a very good reason to be cheerful! Dr John C Taylor OBE FREng
