The Orrery is Invented An orrery (or orrerie) is a mechanical model of the solar system that illustrates or predicts the relative positions and motions of the planets and moons, usually according to the heliocentric model. It was probably invented around 1710 by clockmaker George Graham, who was well-versed in practical astronomy. The first example of an orrery was constructed by the London instrument maker John Rowley, who is also often credited as its inventor.
