Red alert for craft Heritage Crafts recently published the Red List of Endangered Crafts in the UK for 2025. Watchmaking is on the 'Critically endangered' list, and clockmaking is on the 'Endangered' list. These are just two of the crafts identified in this year's list of 165 at-risk crafts. Clocktime Director Dr Laura N Young MBE said, “The Red List raises much UK-wide awareness and assists in ensuring these crucial crafts not only survive, but that they are valued, documented and sustained. This is especially important to us at Clocktime, as we tell the stories of the early clock and watchmakers.” Dr Kristin Leith, Clocktime Curator added, “These histories are crucial, as they inform today's practices of timekeeping and help us make sense of how we structure and organise our lives. It's all too easy to take crafts associated with timekeeping for granted. The Red List is a wakeup call.”
