V&A East Opens! The Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in London is the world's largest museum of applied and decorative arts and design, housing a permanent collection of 2.8 million objects. V&A East Storehouse and Museum are two new free cultural destinations created in partnership with young people and inspired by East London’s creative heritage. The aim is to enhance public access to national collections on a large scale. They are based at East Bank - a hub of arts, education and innovation - within the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, East London. The Storehouse opens to the public this week and the V&A East Museum opens in spring 2026. Fascinatingly, V&A East brings the V&A collection and archive to life in new ways, celebrating making in all its forms and opening up new possibilities and discoveries. There is unprecedented, behind-the-scenes access to the V&A collections and archives. Over 100 curated mini displays will be available for self-exploration in the Weston Collections Hall. Displays will focus on themes like Collecting Stories and Sourcebook for Design. The collection spans from 13th-century sculptures to contemporary fashion and design. From Dior haute couture to Samurai swords, Roman Frescos and Mid-Century furniture - there's plenty to explore. In addition, there will be public live events, many with a contemporary theme. V&A East Storehouse will share new discoveries, previously untold stories and provide new opportunities for all to discover and develop their own creative joy of making. Enjoy a free of charge Order Object service, which is already open for bookings. You can access over half a million creative works for free, seven days a week. Looking at the very broad search term ‘watch’ brings up dozens of antiquarian watches, most on display at the V&A South Kensington or available there to view by appointment. Tim Reeve, Deputy Director and COO, V&A, said: “V&A East Storehouse has been 10 years in the making, and we are so excited to finally open it on 31 May. V&A East Storehouse is a unique piece of museum architecture and will look and feel like a very different cultural experience, defined by the theatre and wonder of the ‘back of house’ world of museum practice and a radical new approach for the public to access their national collections.” V&A East Storehouse will open 10:00-18:00, seven-days-a-week, with late night openings every Thursday and Saturday to 22:00.
