Anchor escapement In horology, the anchor escapement is a type of escapement used in pendulum clocks, and was the first escapement to be widely used in seconds pendulum longcase clocks in England during the 17th century. It allows the pendulum to swing with a smaller arc than when using the verge escapement. Its pallets are anchor-shaped (hence its name), usually forged from one piece of steel, and are wrapped around the top portion of a brass escape wheel.
