Pallet Pallets are the two parts of the escapement mechanism. Each pallet takes its turn to catch the next tooth of the escape wheel as the other pallet disengages from a tooth. In John Harrison’s grasshopper escapement, the pallets do not slide off the teeth of the escape wheel as in an anchor escapement but are two separate pivoted parts, rotating from a pallet carrier and lined up to the correct position and angle by their composer.
