Frieze The frieze is an architectural element in classical Greek and Roman buildings of the Ionic and Doric order. It is the wide central section of an entablature. It can be plain or can feature sculpted (bas-relief) or painted decoration. Friezes are often incorporated into the design of architectural cases on early clocks.
