Knibb's Phase III Clock's ascribed to Joseph Knibb’s so-called Phase III ebony-veneered cases are categorised as such based on the inclusion of stylistic elements identified by Ronald Lee, who was a leading authority of English clocks and author of The Knibb Family, Clockmakers. According to Lee, Phase III clocks are generally smaller and more compact that those made during Knibb’s previous phases, Phases I and II. Horologist Anthony Woodburn also asserts that Phase III clocks tend to have been made between 1680 and 1690 and are characterised by a style of ‘elegant restraint’. Phase III clocks coming soon to Clocktime include Knibb’s Ebony Table Clock, made around 1680, and Double Six Hour Grande Sonnerie Table Clock, made around 1683, as well as the Ebony Spring Timepiece, made around 1685 by Joseph and his younger brother John Knibb.
