Tompion's earliest known clock Around 1675, Thomas Tompion manufactured the clock known as the Olivewood Tompion, named as such because the movement is housed in an exotic olivewood case. It is the earliest known surviving clock by the master clock- and watchmaker. It is also an early example of the incorporation of exotic woods into the cases of luxury clocks. This clock survives only by chance. It was only recently discovered after the second World War in a junk shop on Gloucester Road in London.
