Tompion creates a masterpiece Thomas Tompion strove to achieve accuracy and repeatability regardless of cost. The clock known as the 'Sussex Tompion' was made around 1680 and is exhibited on Clocktime. It has a highly complex two train grande sonnerie striking and repeating mechanism and is a true expression of Tompion's engineering genius. The Sussex Tompion is also one of the earliest examples of a repeating clock by any clockmaker.
